Homemade Turtle Candies Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 cups pecan halves
- 1 bag (11 oz) soft caramels (Kraft or Werther’s work great)
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1½ cups semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil (optional, makes the chocolate smooth and glossy)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Pecans
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Arrange pecan halves in small clusters (3–4 pecans each) about 2 inches apart. These will be the “legs” of the turtle.
Step 2: Melt the Caramel
- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine caramels and heavy cream.
- Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth and melted.
- Spoon about 1 teaspoon of melted caramel onto the center of each pecan cluster. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes to firm up slightly.
Step 3: Melt the Chocolate
- In another bowl, melt chocolate chips with coconut oil (if using) in the microwave, 30-second bursts, stirring until smooth.
Step 4: Coat with Chocolate
- Spoon melted chocolate over the caramel and pecans, making sure to cover the caramel completely.
- Use the back of a spoon to spread gently.
Step 5: Set and Serve
- Allow the candies to set at room temperature, or place them in the fridge for 15 minutes until firm.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature (up to 1 week) or in the fridge (up to 2 weeks).
Pro Tips & Variations:
- Use dark chocolate for a richer flavor.
- Sprinkle a touch of sea salt on top before the chocolate sets for salted turtle candies.
- Add a drizzle of white chocolate for a festive holiday look.
