Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2–4 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
  • Pinch of salt (optional, enhances flavor)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with a hand mixer or stand mixer until creamy and pale (about 2 minutes).
  2. Gradually add powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, mixing on low speed until combined.
  3. Add vanilla extract and 2 tablespoons of cream (or milk). Beat on medium-high until fluffy.
  4. If frosting is too thick, add more cream 1 tablespoon at a time. If too thin, add more powdered sugar.
  5. Whip for 3–4 minutes until light and airy.

Variations

  • Chocolate Buttercream: Add ½ cup cocoa powder with the powdered sugar.
  • Cream Cheese Frosting: Replace half the butter with cream cheese.
  • Whipped Vanilla Frosting: Whip an extra 5 minutes for super fluffy texture.
