Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 3/4 cup buttermilk (or milk with 1 tablespoon vinegar or lemon juice)
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
Step 2: Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Step 3: Cut in Butter
Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
Step 4: Add Buttermilk
Make a well in the center of the dry mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Stir just until the dough comes together, being careful not to overmix.
Step 5: Shape the Dough
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it about 5-6 times until it’s cohesive. Pat it into a rectangle about 1-inch thick.
Step 6: Cut the Biscuits
Use a biscuit cutter (or a glass) to cut out round biscuits. Place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet, making sure they are close but not touching.
Step 7: Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
Step 8: Serve
Let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with butter, honey, or your favorite spread!
Tips
- Keep Ingredients Cold: For extra flaky biscuits, make sure your butter and buttermilk are cold.
- Don’t Overmix: Handle the dough as little as possible for the best texture.
- Experiment: Add herbs or cheese to the dough for a savory twist.
Enjoy your baking, and soon you’ll have a delicious batch of biscuits just like the ones in the image!
