Ingredients
For the Filling:
- 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
- ¼ cup (30 g) powdered sugar
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- ¼ cup (60 g) strawberry jam or preserves
- 2–3 fresh strawberries, finely diced (optional, for added texture and flavor)
For the Wontons:
- 20–24 wonton wrappers
- Small bowl of water (for sealing the edges)
- Vegetable oil (for deep frying)
For Serving (Optional but Recommended):
- Whipped cream
- Extra strawberry jam or strawberry sauce (for dipping)
- Fresh strawberries, sliced
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Directions
1. Prepare the Cheesecake Filling
- In a mixing bowl, add softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract.
- Beat with a hand mixer or spoon until smooth and creamy.
- Fold in the diced strawberries (optional) for texture.
- Set aside.
2. Assemble the Wonton Bites
- Lay one wonton wrapper on a clean, flat surface (keep others covered with a damp towel to prevent drying).
- Spoon about 1 teaspoon of the cheesecake filling into the center.
- Add a small ½ teaspoon dollop of strawberry jam directly on top of the filling if not mixed in earlier.
- Dip your finger in water and moisten all 4 edges of the wrapper.
- Fold the wrapper over into a triangle or envelope shape, pressing the edges firmly to seal.
- Gently press around the filling to remove any air bubbles.
- Repeat until all wrappers are filled.
3. Fry the Wontons
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or saucepan to 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully add a few wontons at a time (do not overcrowd the pan).
- Fry for 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
- Use a slotted spoon to transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels.
- Allow to cool slightly.
4. Serve and Enjoy!
- Serve warm with a side of whipped cream, strawberry jam or sauce, and sliced fresh strawberries.
- Optionally, dust with powdered sugar for a beautiful, sweet finish.
- These are best enjoyed fresh and warm, when the filling is creamy and the outside is crisp.
Tips:
- You can freeze the assembled, uncooked wontons for later. Fry directly from frozen; just add 30 seconds to the cook time.
- Don’t overfill the wrappers—too much filling can cause them to burst while frying.
- For a lighter option, you can air fry them at 375°F (190°C) for 6–8 minutes, flipping halfway through, and spraying lightly with oil.
