Caramel Cream Cheese Bread — Full Recipe
Ingredients
For the Bread Batter
• 2 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 cup granulated sugar
• 1 tsp baking powder
• 1/2 tsp baking soda
• 1/2 tsp salt
• 2 large eggs
• 1 cup buttermilk (or 1 cup milk + 1 tbsp vinegar)
• 1/3 cup vegetable oil
• 2 tsp vanilla extract
For the Cream Cheese Filling
• 8 oz (225g) cream cheese, softened
• 1/4 cup granulated sugar
• 1 egg
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
For the Caramel Swirl
• 1/2 cup thick caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
• 1 tsp sea salt (optional for salted caramel)
For the Topping (optional but amazing)
• Extra caramel drizzle
• A sprinkle of coarse sugar
Instructions
1. Make the Bread Batter
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In a separate bowl, mix the eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ones and mix just until smooth. Do not overmix.
2. Make the Cream Cheese Filling
In a medium bowl, beat the cream cheese, sugar, egg, and vanilla until creamy and smooth.
3. Layer the Batter
Grease and line a loaf pan.
Pour half the bread batter into the pan.
Spoon the cream cheese mixture over it, spreading gently.
Warm the caramel slightly so it spreads easily. Drizzle half over the cream cheese layer.
Pour the remaining bread batter on top.
4. Add the Caramel Swirl
Drizzle the remaining caramel over the top of the batter.
Use a knife to gently swirl it through the batter, creating a marbled pattern.
5. Bake
Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 55–65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean (avoid the cream cheese pocket when testing).
Cover loosely with foil halfway through if the top browns too quickly.
6. Cool & Serve
Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a rack.
Once cooled slightly, drizzle with more caramel if you want extra shine and sweetness.
