No-Oven Stovetop Bread

Don’t Lose This Recipe!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg

Directions:

  1. Mix the dry ingredients:
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  2. Add the wet ingredients:
In a separate bowl, beat the egg, then add in the milk and melted butter. Stir until fully blended.
  3. Combine wet and dry:
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix with a spoon or spatula until a soft, sticky dough forms. Do not overmix.
  4. Heat your pan:
Place a non-stick skillet or pan (with a lid) over low to medium-low heat. Lightly grease it with a bit of butter or oil.
  5. Cook the dough:
Pour the dough into the pan and spread it evenly to form a thick disc (like a thick pancake). Cover the pan with the lid.
  6. Cook covered:
Let it cook for about 10–15 minutes, or until the bottom is golden and the top begins to set. Watch the heat so it doesn’t burn.
  7. Flip the bread:
Carefully flip the bread using a wide spatula or plate, then cover again and cook the other side for 5–8 minutes, until golden and cooked through.
  8. Cool & serve:
Remove from the pan and let it cool for a few minutes. Slice and enjoy warm – with butter, honey, jam, or as a sandwich base!

Tips:

  • Use a lid to trap steam – this helps cook the bread evenly.
  • You can add herbs or cheese to the batter for extra flavor.
  • Great emergency or travel-friendly recipe when you don’t have an oven!
