Ingredients
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2–4 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
- Pinch of salt (optional, enhances flavor)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with a hand mixer or stand mixer until creamy and pale (about 2 minutes).
- Gradually add powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, mixing on low speed until combined.
- Add vanilla extract and 2 tablespoons of cream (or milk). Beat on medium-high until fluffy.
- If frosting is too thick, add more cream 1 tablespoon at a time. If too thin, add more powdered sugar.
- Whip for 3–4 minutes until light and airy.
Variations
- Chocolate Buttercream: Add ½ cup cocoa powder with the powdered sugar.
- Cream Cheese Frosting: Replace half the butter with cream cheese.
- Whipped Vanilla Frosting: Whip an extra 5 minutes for super fluffy texture.
