Ground Beef and Chopped Cabbage Skillet
Simple, hearty, and packed with flavor—this is the kind of recipe you’ll come back to again and again!
Ingredients
- 1 small head of cabbage, chopped
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes (with juices)
- 1 cup onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon bouillon powder (beef or chicken, your choice)
- 1 teaspoon paprika (optional)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
Instructions
Step 1: Brown the Beef
- In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat the oil over medium-high heat.
- Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain excess fat if needed.
Step 2: Add Aromatics
- Stir in chopped onion and garlic. Cook for 2–3 minutes until fragrant and softened.
Step 3: Add Tomatoes & Seasoning
- Pour in the diced tomatoes with their juice.
- Stir in bouillon powder, paprika (if using), salt, and pepper. Let simmer for 5 minutes so the flavors come together.
Step 4: Add Cabbage
- Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet. Cover and cook for about 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender but not mushy.
Step 5: Taste & Serve
- Adjust seasoning to your liking.
- Serve hot as a complete meal or with warm crusty bread, rice, or mashed potatoes.
Tips & Variations
- Swap ground beef for ground turkey, pork, or sausage for a different flavor.
- Add a dash of red pepper flakes for some heat.
- Sprinkle with shredded cheddar or mozzarella before serving for a cheesy twist.
- Make it heartier with cooked rice or quinoa stirred in before serving.
