Viral Cabbage Boil with Sausage, Shrimp, and Bacon

Ingredients

  • 3 small green cabbages (outer leaves removed, cores trimmed out)
  • 1 lb large shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • 12 oz smoked sausage (sliced)
  • 8 oz bacon (chopped)
  • 1 red bell pepper (diced)
  • 1 green bell pepper (diced)
  • 1 small onion (diced)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • ¼ cup olive oil or melted butter
  • 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning (or Old Bay)
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper (optional for heat)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prep the Cabbages
    • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Cut a deep pocket in each cabbage head by carefully removing the core with a sharp knife, making room for stuffing.
  2. Cook the Bacon and Sausage
    • In a skillet, cook bacon until crisp. Remove and set aside.
    • In the same pan, sauté sausage slices until browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. Sauté the Veggies and Shrimp
    • Add onion, garlic, and bell peppers to the bacon grease. Cook until softened.
    • Toss in shrimp with Cajun seasoning and smoked paprika. Cook 2–3 minutes until just pink.
  4. Stuff the Cabbages
    • Mix shrimp, sausage, bacon, and veggies together.
    • Stuff each cabbage with the mixture, packing tightly.
  5. Bake
    • Place cabbages in a greased baking dish. Drizzle olive oil or melted butter over the tops.
    • Cover with foil and bake 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 15–20 minutes until golden and tender.
  6. Serve
    • Slice open the cabbages to reveal the filling. Garnish with parsley and enjoy hot!
