Easy Fruit Cobbler
This old-fashioned cobbler is pure comfort food — buttery, golden, and filled with juicy fruit. The best part? It only takes a handful of ingredients and less than 10 minutes to prep. Perfect for weeknights, holidays, or when you just need a warm dessert with a scoop of ice cream on top.
Ingredients
- 1 stick (½ cup) butter
- 1 cup self-rising flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup milk
- 1 (1 lb. 5 oz.) can pie filling (peach, cherry, apple, blueberry, etc.)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven & Melt Butter
- Place the stick of butter in a 9×13 baking dish.
- Put the dish in the oven as it preheats to 350°F (175°C), allowing the butter to melt completely.
- Mix the Batter
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and milk until smooth.
- Don’t overmix; a few small lumps are fine.
- Assemble the Cobbler
- Pour the batter mixture into the hot pan with melted butter (do not stir).
- Spoon pie filling evenly over the top. Do not mix — the cobbler will bake up with the fruit rising through the batter, creating two delicious layers.
- Bake
- Place the dish back into the oven and bake for 35–40 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbling around the edges.
- Serve
- Let cool slightly, then serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Tips & Variations
- Fruit Choices: Works beautifully with peach, cherry, apple, blueberry, or even mixed berry pie filling.
- Fresh Fruit Twist: If you want to use fresh fruit, toss about 3–4 cups of sliced fruit with ½ cup sugar and 1 tablespoon cornstarch, then spoon over batter.
- Spiced Version: Add ½ teaspoon cinnamon and ¼ teaspoon nutmeg to the flour mixture for a cozy, spiced flavor.
- Crispy Top: Sprinkle 1–2 tablespoons sugar over the cobbler before baking for a crunchy golden topping.
